What do folks think of having 30 minute showcases on Jam nights? The idea is that folk create small bands and prepare music to present at the beginning of each Jam. The presentation would start at 6:45 sharp and go till 7:15. This would highlight some of our experienced players and provide instruction to newbies.

Please offer your thoughts.

Great Idea!! I assume this is an option for both folk and bluegrass jams. Also, you may want to consider less than 30 minutes in some cases where the group or individual doesn't have quite 30 minutes. An example could be a song writer trying out some new originals. Also, I assume that the showcase would be advertised (on the meetup) prior to the Jam.

Sounds good to me! However, I do agree with the member that suggested that in some cases a little less than 30 minutes might be a good idea. There might be some members who have some amazing material to share but can't quite fill up that time span. Or need the experience of a bit shorter time period in order to feel more confident with a longer one somewhere down the line.

Jeff, I love the way you are always thinking about new ways to keep this experience new and wonderful for all of us. You are amazing!!!

I'm for it! It's always interesting to hear what one person is working on, or into. I also agree that 30 min. may be a bit too long. then again it depends on the person. The time limit could vary also with brief meeting with the performer on how much he or she would like. Maybe limit it to 3 or 4 songs?
Good Luck!

For the folk circle, we could have 2 acts who together have 30 minutes. This would be pre-arrange on our schedule of featured guests.

The idea for jam night presentations, is to have groups (of members) who have worked up material do as a performance. This would showcase how jamming and performing in the style is done. It also recognizes the musicians for their time dedication. Afterwords, the regular jam would proceed and other folks can ask questions and seek some instruction.
