Thanks Christine and Rose for facilitating this workshop. Folks may not realize it, but we actually have volunteer members who make these workshops happen. You guys are wonderful, and yes, we will do more with Avery.

This was a wonderful workshop. Avery is a great educator, his lessons well structured and FUN! I can't believe how much I learned in such a short time.

As the guy who gave the workshop, can say those who attended were a great bunch of knuckleheads who, at least I believe, now have a few more ways to express themselves on their fiddles. While armed with all kinds of material, what we ended up doing is taking one simple song that everyone knew, and used this as the vehicle for learning approaches that give one's playing a more "fiddle-like" sound. These included doublestops and drones, glides, trills, timing and bowing alternatives, and wrist-losening techniques. All considered, seems a good time was had by all, and very surprising how quickly the time passed. Hats off to Jeff, Christine, Rose and the Poway Folk Circle for hosting the event - one that, given popular request, will definitely be repeated. Avery Ellisman

This workshop was exactly what I had hoped for. The instructor, Avery, was excellent. He gave everyone things to think about and practice in a low stress setting. Great workshop !!

This class offered exactly what I needed - how to add some notes and frills to spice up my playing. We used one tune everyone knew and went through it part by part learning the new embellishments. The instructor had us play the parts over and over as he came around and observed us individually to be sure we got it right. He was very patient and had a gift to see what you were doing and make some corrections. This amazing class will help me move from a violin player to a fiddler. Can't wait for the next class!
