Bluegrass Jams

Our bluegrass jams include bluegrass, old time, swing, rags and blues. That said, we can cover a wide range of songs performed in a traditional bluegrass string band style. We play at a moderate to quick tempo and include traditional songs, fiddle tunes, and jazz/swing classics. We target intermediate players, and welcome advanced and beginning players as well. Our events are open and free to the public, and intended to provide an entertaining and educational experience in a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.

Generally the Jams begin with a couple of warm up songs for players and singers. Yes, we sing in many of the songs. Musicians form a circle and take turns leading songs in clockwise fashion. Each leader selects and starts the next song for the group. The leader turn is passed around in a clockwise direction and continues throughout the evening. Folks are often added or leave the circle over the course of the Jam.

During each song, the "break" turn or lead is passed around the circle starting with the song leader. The break is an opportunity to improvise over the song melody with your chosen instrument. The break turn moves around in a clockwise direction until it returns to the leader, who is entitled to a second break and finishes the song.

Additional direction is provided by PFC leaders during the evening. You will have a lot of fun, and remember to be patient and encourage your fellow jammers. This is a great place to learn about Jams in a supportive environment.
