Our folk circles are designed for enjoying prepared acoustic music played by individuals and as a group. We enjoy traditional, popular and original music. All music is presented acoustically (no amplification). The material and presentation are family friendly and suitable for a wide audience. We strongly encourage the public to join for singing or just listening. Our events are open and free to the public, and intended to provide an entertaining and educational experience in a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.
We start the evening by featuring a singer or group. After the feature, we sometimes ask a member to teach a song or lead in group sing alongs. We then move on to the song circle. Each participant has the opportunity to lead a song as the turn moves around. The song leader may play solo, request backup, or pass. It is important to only play along if the song leader indicates others should do so.
We play guitars, mandolins, banjos, fiddles, basses, dobros, dulcimers, harmonicas, ukuleles and other stringed instruments. Low volume wood and reed instruments are also welcome.
Sorry, drums of all sorts are generally too loud, so we generally ask folks not to bring them.
Play at an appropriate volume level so all may hear the leader. Most of all, have fun and practice the ART - Appreciation, Respect, Tolerance.
